David H Doig

David Doig graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from the University of Manitoba in 1985 with a Bachelor of Laws Degree.  He was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1986.

David has practiced in the field of personal injury since 1986.  As one of the leading counsel in BC in this field, David's practice has consisted of complex personal injury claims.  A significant portion of his practice has been devoted to acting on behalf of children with catastrophic injuries.

Over the past 25 years, David has handled some of the largest, most complex personal injury claims in BC. These include primarily catastrophic brain and spinal cord injuries.   He has been lead counsel in claims arising out of multi party/multi-vehicle collisions, defective goods, faulty workmanship, construction and building maintenance issues, professional/ medical malpractice and highway design and construction. He has handled all types and complexities of personal injury claims including motor vehicles, motorcycles, train collisions, drownings, burns, electrocutions and medical malpractice injuries.  David is frequently consulted by the medical/rehabilitation community and by lawyers on issues relating to these types of claims. 

David is well known for his support of the rehabilitation community.  He is one of the leading proponents in BC for lawyers taking a greater role in rehabilitation.   A key component of his practice has been his focus on ensuring that his clients receive the best rehabilitation possible, as quickly as possible, regardless of what the cost is or where his clients may reside.  David takes a personal interest in ensuring that this occurs for each client.  This includes traveling to the client's community regardless of where the client may reside in the world.

David lectures on medical/rehabilitation and legal issues to doctors and other health care professionals, as well as to lawyers and the public.  He is a faculty member of the St Paul's Hospital Continuing Medical Education Society and has been a guest lecturer at hundreds of medical/legal conferences and seminars.  He has authored numerous articles and papers on these issues as well.

David, his wife and son reside in Burnaby, BC. In his spare time he coaches junior hockey, as well as being involved in all kinds of kids sporting activities. He enjoys boating and construction projects as well as tinkering on old cars. He is always up to his ears in one community project or another.
